Facebook Sign Up In 3 Easy Steps

This post is about how to sign up for a Facebook account. (Are you looking for a Facebook Sign Up app instead? Read on – there’s more information below)
With its explosive growth, Facebook sign up millions of people daily. And many of them, especially if they are new to the Web, don’t know how to join Facebook and get an account. A common question blog readers used to ask earlier was about “MySpace sign up” or “Yahoo sign up” – but now, most want to know how to sign up to Facebook.
Well, it’s easy. Just 3 simple steps.
Facebook Sign Up In 3 Steps
1. Type ‘Facebook.com‘ (or ‘fb.com’) into your web browser address bar.
2. You’ll reach the Facebook.com homepage, where you’ll see “Sign Up” on the right. Type your name, email address, gender, a password of your choice and your birthday into the appropriate boxes and click the green SIGN UP button.
3. You will be asked to verify your application by typing in the protection check term on the screen and click ‘Sign Up’ once more. You may want to go through the ‘terms of service’ and ‘privacy policy’ documents before you do, just to make sure you are comfortable with them and can comply.
That’s all it takes for a Facebook sign up.
But wait, there’s more!
You would be well advised to learn a little more about what it means to sign up for a Facebook account. There are nuances and pitfalls to guard against, rabbit-holes you could wander into and get lost, wasting hours of precious time – and even some very real dangers and risks.
Do You Need a Facebook Account?
Facebook has grown exponentially to become a rival to mighty Google in terms of website traffic and unique visitors of the social network. 500 million people use Facebook.com and a Facebook search is almost certain to throw up many of your friends and colleagues.
But is that, in itself, a reason for you to need a Facebook sign up?
- If you are a business owner or run a non-profit, I would say yes.
- If you are constantly generating leads for selling products or service, Facebook offers many opportunities.
- If you love the thought of connecting with friends from school, college or work even from remote locations, where you can interact and share, then Facebook may offer value to you.
In other words, if you need a social networking solution for business or personal reasons, Facebook.com is indispensible. The site is structured and designed to make interaction easy, convenient and fun.
But Beware The Seduction of Facebook
Unknowing or uncaring, many Facebook users reveal information (often personal) on the social network that leads to ruinous consequences.
While engaging on this huge social networking site, it is wise to bear in mind the sage advise someone offered me years ago when I first ventured out into the World Wide Web:
“Don’t post ANYTHING online that you would not feel comfortable seeing pasted on the wall of a public toilet!”
The humungous human network that’s Facebook naturally puts you into close contact with diverse personalities. Not all of them are nice, happy, or even sane. You are taking your chances. Be guarded and cautious about sharing your personal and intimate details on the network.
A compounding variable is that Facebook frequently changes privacy policy rules, sometimes with embarrassing complications. Imagine seeing a note you shared with a close personal friend suddenly popping up on the ‘Wall’ of hundreds of THEIR friends – because Facebook shifted the default privacy settings!
It has happened more than once… so be prepared for it again.
Facebook Business Sign Up Procedure
If you’re looking to sign up for a Facebook business page, the procedure is slightly different.
You first need to sign up as a user with your personal details. Then using your Facebook login, scroll down to the bottom and click on the ‘Advertising’ link in the footer.
On the next screen, click on ‘Pages’ and then the green ‘Create a Page’ button.
Choose a category, type in the name of your business, and click on the button to set up Facebook business pages.
That’s all it takes for a Facebook business sign up.

Things To Do After Facebook Sign Up
1. Find your friends. If you know someone’s email address, you can run a Facebook search to see if they are already on it – and connect with them on the social network.
2. Fill in your profile. When you include details such as your high school, college and company on your profile, others can find you by searching on this data – and you may link up with many old friends from way back!
3. Upload your photograph. It’s easy. Click on “Upload a Photo”, browse to where the photo is on your hard drive, and click “Save and Continue”. Within a few seconds, you’ll see your smiling face up on the profile page.
4. Confirm your Facebook sign up. Check your email. Facebook will send you an account confirmation message. Inside it will be a link that you’ll have to click to confirm your account.
There are a few extra features you may want to use on your Facebook business page, such as listing ‘Events’ around your industry or company, adding videos and photographs, and invite clients or buyers to add a review of your business.
You can even set your Facebook business sign up permissions so that one of your employees can administrate the business page.
Facebook Sign Up Applications
If you’re looking to insert an email sign up form to your Facebook account, or to a fan page on Facebook.com, then here’s how you can do it.
MailChimp has a Facebook application which anyone can install for free. It will automatically generate an opt-in email subscription form that you can include on your Facebook profile or fan page – allowing new subscribers to sign up from Facebook to your email list.
For details on how to do this, please read this guide on the MailChimp Facebook sign up application. WildFire also offers a Facebook sign up application – you can learn more about it here.
